Theatre owners in Coimbatore area have come forward to delete objectionable scenes from the Dhanush starrer Uthamaputhiran following protests from the dominant Goundar community.
This follows a direction from Coimbatore District Collector P Umanath, who advised the theatre owners to stop screening the movie to avoid law and order problems.
We are ready to remove the dialogues which the functionaries of Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam feel hurting the sentiments of Goundars. They can watch the movie again, a senior office-bearer of theatre owners association in Kovai region reportedly said.
On Tuesday, activists of the Goundar outfit staged a protest demonstration in Coimbatore in front of cinema halls screening Uthamaputhiran, alleging that the Dhanush-starrer film had portrayed the Goundar community in a bad light.
The film has been made in such a way that it would bring disrepute to our community. We will not allow it run anywhere. Also, we demand an unconditional apology from those involved in the project, protestors said.
They also petitioned the District Collector and other higher officials to take steps to stop the screening of the film.
